It's that Green River feeling...
The crickets are chirping ...or are those frogs?
Howdy Campers, Chris here. I make Green River picture books that are warm and simple with a touch of playful adventure.
It’s nothing complicated. Making a picture book is about trying to get everything out of the way so that Green River feeling comes through.
Yes, I do believe it's the frogs that are chirping. Which reminds me... You should introduce your kids to a little frog named Slim. They will love Slim and all the Croakie Cousins. Order your copy today. What a great way to share that Green River feeling!
A look back at the old journal shows me that Croakie Cousins was a branching tree of ideas about a year ago. I finished two frog stories before I started in the direction of "Go for a Swim." This version began its creative journey as a sixty pager, you can find an early draft here. Then, last Winter, I pulled out the trimmers and edited the story to fit a conventional 32 page children's picture book. I think this helps to give proper scope and focus and gives me hope in managing continuity gaps. As for publication ready, I feel most of the design is in place, but more to do on styling the characters, especially head and features. But generally I think it's okay and I am going to fast-track it to go out by June 1st. Check out the Five Croakie Cousins Preview Page here.
Green River Books
Picture Books for Kids
Hi, Chris here.
Out at our favorite camping spot, I'm camp cook and chief bottle washer for the family. Yep! I'm the 'cookie' and in my spare time, I'm 'cooking up' a big batch of children's picture books.
I grew up in a little corner of the Oregon countryside out there between Mt. Hood and Portland. I had many great days paddling my kayak on the river and hiking through the woods. Perhaps, something of my Oregon boyhood comes through in the tone and feeling of these books.
My books are about animal characters who live near the Green River. That's why they're called, Green River Books.
On the surface, the stories are about animal friends who help each other meet life's challenges in playful and surprising ways. But the Green River runs deeper than that.
I believe there is something unique and inspirational in these stories ...like I mentioned, the Green River runs deep. How so? Take the plunge into the Green River and find out for yourself.
See you out at the old campground.
